robert newmanMajor General Robert B. Newman, Jr. served as Adjutant General of Virginia from January 2006- May 2010, where he was responsible for the combat readiness of units, and the administration and training of more than 8,200 Virginia Army and Air National Guard personnel. Prior to his appointment as the Adjutant General, he served as the Deputy Assistant Homeland Security Advisor to Virginia Governor Mark Warner where he oversaw Virginia’s critical infrastructure protection program and the Commonwealth Preparedness Working Group. He also served as Vice Director for Operations, Plans, Logistics and Engineering (J3/4V) at United States Joint Forces Command; and Commandant of the National Guard’s first joint unit combining both Air and Army Guardsmen from Virginia and North Carolina at United States Joint Forces Command. After the attacks of September 11, he was called to active duty serving as the liaison officer for the National Guard to the United States Joint Forces Command as Chief of the Special Programs Branch, J3/Domestic Operations Division, National Guard Bureau.
